exist. There are words ready to burst from my chest. I am ready to speak to the world, to tell them that my homeland was not Iraq. They call me Iraqi, but according to Ishtar, Gilgamesh, Anu, Shamash, and Enlil, that is not the name of my country. Iraq was coined by Arabs, and it was recognized by Moguls, Safavids, Ottomans, British, Americans, and the United Nations. But I am in Iraq deaf and blind, sad, broken and hungry. I am not free, but a captive. My body was sold like a slave in auction on the streets of Baghdad. The name of my country is not Iraq; its true name is written on the walls of Babylon, in Ashurbanipal's library, and within Nimrud's palace. My homeland is Mesopotamia. The land of legends and beauty, where we climbed to the stars every morning. Along the Nineveh Valley, the sunflowers dance with Tammuz, while Ishtar colors her hair with jasmine. The name of my country is not Iraq. Please call me Mesopotamian, not Iraqi. Biba, are you there to sing for me "saperjwen" so I can dance and sing? If you stumbled upon here chances are you have no idea who I am, and that's totally okay! My name is Silva. I'm a 20 year old girl residing in the central valley of California (yes I hate it). I'm of Middle Eastern descent, half Assyrian & half Armenian. I'm also a violinist and a student. I have three cats, all of which I tend to update about... yes I know I'm going to be a cat lady in a couple years. I'm a bookaholic, and I love me a good fantasy book (yes I read Twilight, yes I liked it for a week, yes I realized it's one of the shittiest books ever written). Technicalities out of the way, I think I'm an easy person to get along with. I love talking to new people, generally, and I share a lot of common interests with everyone. I love everything Kristen Stewart, Sarah Brightman, Lacuna Coil, True Blood, Powerpuff Girls, Betsy Johnson, and a crapload of other stuff. I listen to every genre of music, no lie. Don't be afraid to add me :) more. I believe in a higher power, one that everybody takes for granted and over-justifies themselves with it. I believe in the right to believe what you want, free of judgement or punishment. I believe marijuana should be legalized. I believe abortion is a choice, but I also believe a mother who doesn't want her child doesn't deserve any sympathy. I believe I'm never going to grow up, and I prefer it that way. I believe that one day, all will be right in the world and that'll be the day the world ends. |
